Character
Name: Prince Takumi of Hoshido
Age: Unknown, estimated late teens to early twenties; default headcanon age is 22 but I’m flexible!
Gender: Male
Canon: Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright path
Canon Point: Post-game.
History: A link to his wiki page! Again, I am using the Birthright timeline for his history, with a male Corrin and no S supports (marriages) or children. Obviously should anyone app a canonmate I’m open to them going with whatever!
Personality: Takumi is the second (or third, if you make Corrin male in Birthright) prince of Hoshido and the third (fourth, counting Corrin) child in his family. As such, his life revolves around trying to catch up with his older siblings to make himself worthy of his position. Despite having a very adoring relationship with his adopted mother Queen Mikoto, Takumi grew up in the wake of his mother Ikona passing away, his father Sumeragi being assassinated by Nohr, and Corrin being kidnapped when he was small - and all this against the backdrop of a very violent, fearful and prejudiced building conflict with Nohr. In a family so thoroughly fractured - Ryoma stepping up to be the father figure of the family at a young age, Hinoka obsessing over the loss of Corrin, and Sakura shy and anxious and in Takumi's eyes needing an older sibling that wasn't distant - Takumi became a very anxious and moody child that was close with his little sister but somewhat resentful of his older siblings, though he also idolized them and wanted desperately to measure up and be useful to the family and his country. It proved to be an environment that didn't provide well for someone like him, a boy scared of the dark and plagued with nightmares even as a small child (see: his supports with Orochi), and his emotional volatility made him stand out as less than the restrained and composed ideal of a Hoshidan royal as he got older. Takumi's self-imposed struggle to be good enough and strong enough started very early.
Intensely loyal and devoted to his family, Takumi wants nothing more than to be a powerful person that would make the right decisions for his country and be worthy of respect in the eyes of his family and his people. Unfortunately, this desire over the years has become so obsessive that he loses sight of that simple goal while also disregarding his successes along the way. In being so emotionally driven, he completely misses the practicality of things if he isn't careful, and because of this he can come across as overly suspicious, difficult, easily angered and just all around moody. In truth he's actually a very kind person, but his usual volatility results in even those close to him being surprised when he makes generous gestures (see: supports with Oboro). He also has the unfortunate tendency of letting his resentment toward himself and others fester until he explodes and projects it on others, going so far as to tell Hinoka in their support chain that he doesn't need her to pretend to care about his safety, that people wouldn't care if he fell in battle because he's dead weight, that they should let him fight their enemies alone so he can prove that he's actually useful. Hinoka, of course, is blindsided by this, and fairly rightly so if only from Takumi's sharp and sudden bitterness. Some of the Nohrians (in the Revelation path) see through Takumi's anger and recognize it more for the bubbling frustration it is, Elise mostly being unfazed by his outbursts and Camilla even going so far as to say he's cute when he's angry.
Takumi's biggest issue is that he is just far too concerned with comparing himself to other people and worrying what they think of him. It's implied in his supports that he was actually very good with a sword (beating the shit out of Hinata who specializes in blades) but cast the discipline aside to pick up the bow instead because he wasn't as good as his older brother. He's suspicious and quick to have angry outbursts because it's remarkably easy for his paranoia to convince him that other people are making fun of him or insulting him (though eventually his guilt chews him up and he comes back to apologize after). He pushes himself hard, being driven and reliable and passionate about his goals and taking care of the people he cares about, and it would be great if only the voice whispering in his head would finally admit that it's good enough. The fact is, he spends so much time trying to become his own person independent of his older siblings... by emulating them. Ryoma even points out that Takumi would make an excellent government adviser for him, his supports with Leo in Revelation show that he has interests in a wide variety of hobbies and subjects that his siblings do not and implies that he's actually the brains of the family so long as he calms the fuck down, but often he still finds all of this paling when compared to the things he obsessively tries to improve on only for his siblings - especially Ryoma - to outstrip him. He has a very strategic mind so long as he doesn't recklessly throw himself into a fight because he feels he has to prove himself, and he's often the voice of cautious reason, questioning the motivations of everyone the party meets - which proves a good foil to Corrin's policy of trusting everyone too easily. If only he wouldn't have such notable periods of totally losing sight of all that.
Tl;dr, Takumi is what happens when your country hasn't developed a pincer approach to mental health that includes SSRI medication and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Powers/Abilities:Takumi is a skilled archer with the arm muscle and fleet feet to match, and his ability to not just hit a target but critically pierce its weak points is basically unmatched in his canon. Before taking up the bow he had also been a fairly talented swordsman, though he's cast that aside save for a rare spar due to his disappointment in himself for not being the best. His defenses are fairly low, however, so he has to be careful to stay behind a more tank-like ally and be wary of being surrounded or else he risks being taken down quickly on the battlefield.
He has no magical abilities to speak of, but he does have a wind-aspected divine weapon called the Fujin Yumi which supplies an unending supply of magical arrows he can manifest at will (along with its bowstring) and also allows him to traverse terrain even more easily than he can normally (as if he were a mounted flying unit). Since this weapon is not only important to him on the battlefield but also holds sentimental significance, he'll be devastated to not have it with him upon arriving in Vaikuntha.
When not acting recklessly on his own, Takumi also has a head for strategy and has had some experience leading troops despite his somewhat young age.
Despite his princely position he is actually pretty capable in practical day to day tasks as well - laundry in his Felicia supports, working fields in his Mozu supports, swapping recipes in his Leo supports, hunting in basically half of the rest of his supports - and so he'll be able to take care of himself outside of battle as well.
